HOW THE PILGRIMS GOT THE SHIP
The separatists (the pilgrims who wanted to be free to worship god as they pleased) went to some English merchants (the London company) who agreed to pay for the ship to America if the pilgrims could pay the investors back. The pilgrims bought the Mayflower and the Speedwell with the money from the merchants. The Speedwell was smaller than the Mayflower but the Speedwell kept having problems like leaks so all 102 passengers had to be stuffed aboard the Mayflower. The other passengers were forced off because they were out of shape or was not strong. Those extra passengers would just be taking up space.
The ships purpose
The ship wasn't truly meant for passengers, it was meant for cargo but the Mayflower was the ship the London Company gave them. The Mayflower ship was also sturdy

What was life like aboard the Mayflower
It was very crowed in the 'tween decks of the Mayflower. The pilgrims were usually bored and only got fresh air when they went to empty their Chamber pots (toilets). The separatists did not like when the crew members cursed because they were religious people and when a crew member died the separatists enjoyed it. The space the pilgrims had to live in was only 5ft. 5in. and the pilgrims were usually tossed around because the ship rocked back and forth. They had to spend 65 days in the 'tween decks straight.
THE JOURNEY OF THE MAYFLOWER
The journey of the Mayflower was not a fun one. They started on September 6, 1620 and dropped anchor on November 11, 1620. A storm blew them off course so they had to stop at Newfoundland for supplies. They ended up more north than they expected. On the trip their were 51 men, 21 boys, 20 women, and 10 girls. One baby was born on the Mayflower and two passengers died.
WHAT HAPPeND DURING THE STORM
The storm was a rough one. The pilgrims were delayed a week because of the storm. During the storm the passengers were thrown around and two of them died. The main mast broke so they had to fix it with a very big screw they got from Holland. There were also leaks in the boat during the storm. The crew members had to fill the holes with caulk.
